• Jayne Dion Shares Secrets of Scenery Design at LOCA Art Talks

Everyone who appreciates unique art careers will love meeting sculptor Jayne Dion. She will present at LOCA Art Talks, presented by LOCA Arts Education, on Thursday January 16, 5:30-7:00pm at LCAD Gallery, downtown Laguna Beach. Dion will share behind-the-scenes stories and photos of her work both as a fine artist and scenery designer.
Much of her scenic work is presented as large scale seasonal displays at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa where she has been a resident artist for more than 20 years. The experience has made her an expert in creating substructures and armatures, carving foams, and using adhesives, paints, and sealers in creating dramatic larger-than-life tableau’s that thrill thousands of plaza visitors annually. “Part of the challenge is knowing where the pieces will be installed, and coming up with solutions to get them from the shop to the display destination,” she said. Examples she will discuss include holiday displays including a six foot Faberge’ egg.
Locally, Dion is noted for exhibiting at Festival of Arts for several years. Her intricate wall sculptures often reference trees and nature, have a poetic narrative, and have uncommon combinations of pen and ink, watercolor, woods, and metals.
As a bonus to those attending LOCA Art Talks, everyone will receive a post-event certificate for 15%-off food at nearby Lumberyard Restaurant. Advance registration is required, visitors $20, free to members of LOCA Arts Education.
