LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.—November 11, 2022—As part of the Wisdom of the Masters series, No Square Theatre brings an experienced Broadway performer to Laguna Beach for a Master Class in audition and performance skills. This class is a rare opportunity for talented locals to learn from Courtney Reed, someone who has been there and succeeded. It is made possible through a generous Cultural Arts Funding grant from the Lodging Establishments and City of Laguna Beach.
After making her Broadway debut in MAMMA MIA!, Miss Reed originated the role of Princess Jasmine in Disney's smash Broadway hit ALADDIN, for which the original cast recording received a Grammy nomination. She also played Carla, Vanessa, and understudied Nina in the Tony Award-Winning Musical IN THE HEIGHTS. She is currently leading the North American Tour launch of the recent Tony Award-Winning musical MOULIN ROUGE as Satine. Her many television credits include The Affair, Law & Order: SVU, White Collar, NYC 22, and CSI: NY.
In the Master Class at No Square, Miss Reed will work with each student on audition technique and song interpretation. The focus is on elevating audition and performance skills and connecting to the audition material. Students will break down their song material with one-on-one coaching in a class setting, and participate in a question and answer session with Miss Reed.

Preparation for Participants:
We will focus on only one 32-bar cut in this class, but ask that you have a second song as a backup. Choose two musical theatre audition songs and prepare 32 bars from each. During the 3:30-4:30 hour, you will rehearse your selection with the accompanist.
Select the right songs:
Pick songs you love, and that are suitable for auditions. If you request it, No Square can provide guidance in making a song selection. It is important to be totally comfortable with your song choice so you can work on it in a new way. The song should be meaningful to you and something you enjoy singing. Bring sheet music, in the correct key, in a three-ring binder.
Participants will get specific and personal attention, but observers can also learn a great deal from watching a Master Class!
